Agriculture Industry
Known as the Land of Farmers, India has Agriculture at its foundation. Contributing 22% of the GDP of the country and forming the livelihood of a major section of the population, Agriculture in India is awaiting a revolution. Depending largely on monsoon, this sector meets major upheavals if there is any shortage of annual rainfall. Likewise, heavy rainfall and flood also create havocs to the annual agricultural production. Since the ancient period, there have been major advancements in the technology used in the agriculture sector with major irrigation projects, better fertilizers, seeds, etc. Owing to this, the production rate of many crops has shown tremendous increase. The production of rice has risen by 8.1% in the recent years. Moreover, wheat production increased to a fair 4.8 % in 2005 as compared to the prior years. The same is the scene with the other crops such as pulses, oilseeds, maize, cotton, jute, etc.
